Here in the Football Transfer Tavern, the Daily Mail report that Manchester United are growing increasingly confident of netting Marouane Fellaini, despite the £23 million clause in the Belgian’s contract expiring.
David Moyes is keen to bring the player to old Trafford and link up with his former star man, and is willing to pay up to £25 million to do so. Given Everton are determined to hold onto the midfielder, it won’t be an easy task, yet Moyes is fully aware that new signings are needed this summer if United are to retain their title. Not only that, but given the money spent by Manchester City and also Chelsea, the club need to move forward and after missing out on both Cesc Fabregas and Thiago.
Moyes is also considering making a bid for Leighton Baines to bring the left back to Old Trafford. After a summer that has mainly been disappointing for fans and the board in the transfer market – not to mention slightly overshadowed by the Wayne Rooney saga – Moyes is fully aware that a marquee signing just as the season kicks off would be a massive boost for everyone at the club. In addition, it would also send a message to Stamford Bridge and Jose Mourinho that the club mean business.
