After losing Demba Ba to Chelsea during the week Newcastle fans in the Football Transfer Tavern have been discussing who Alan Pardew would replace him with. One name continually mentioned was Marseille striker Loic Remy and news today from Metro has brought a smile to their faces as the paper confirms that the Magpies are in advanced talks to bring him to St. James’ Park.
Remy is known to be Pardew’s top transfer target as he a seeks a like-for-like replacement for the Senegal international. Papiss Cisse is expected to step up and fill Ba’s large shoes as the club’s main striker but Pardew still wants another versatile forward to offer him competition for the place.
French sources have now confirmed that Newcastle are in talks to bring him across the channel with the Premier League club keen to agree a deal before the next set of league fixtures next week.
Remy is likely to cost more than the £7.5 million paid for Ba by Chelsea due to his release clause but he still has an impressive record in France having played for the likes of Lyon, Lens, Nice and currently Marseille.
