The future of Newcastle United skipper Fabricio Coloccini has been the subject of much speculation here at the Football Transfer Tavern and after the latest claims from Sky Sports, we are as intrigued as ever.
Coloccini had been linked with a move away from the Magpies after claiming he wished to leave and return home due to ‘personal reasons’. These reasons are not exactly clear but are believed to be linked to his family and health of his wife. The club for their part have been understanding, yet do not wish to lose their influential skipper until the summer at least.
With Alan Pardew’s side now dragged into the Premier League relegation battle, it is more vital than ever for the side to pull together and start grinding out those results. Sky claim that the player has been attending training and despite talks with Argentinian outfit San Lorenzo, the player and club are no closer to finding a solution to the mess.
Whilst 31-year-old Coloccini has been a loyal servant at St. James’ Park, his wish to return home cannot be ignored by the club and if a solution is not found this window, it almost certainly will be in the summer.
