Newcastle & Sunderland To Slug It Out For Respected European Talent

Newcastle and Sunderland are ready to go head to head over Ajax’s Vurnon Anita.

Newcastle seemed in pole position to land the Dutchman but had a £4m bid rejected with Ajax demanding £8m for the midfielder.

The 23-year-old is now a target for Newcastle’s arch rivals Sunderland who are willing to match any Newcastle bid for the player, although whether any of the clubs are prepared to meet Ajax’s valuation is unknown.

Newcastle are also keen on FC Twente pair Douglas and Luuk De Jong and Lille’s Mathieu Debuchy as they look to build on their impressive season last year.

Elsewhere, Sunderland seem keen on Junior Hoilett and Blackburn’s Steven N’Zonzi.

Sunderland’s bid for Anita will be bolstered by the sale of Asamoah Gyan to UAE side Al Ain in which they recieved £12m.

Anita is a technically gifted midfield player as most Dutch players are but can also play left back  he is not a well known player outside of Holland and has only 3 international caps although he does have an array of talent ahead of him in the Dutch national team.
