Being one of the most exciting talents in world football, punters in the Football Transfer Tavern desperately want to see Neymar gracing the Premier League in the near future and reports today have left them relieved after the Brazilian international denied reports that he has agreed to join Barcelona.
It was thought that Barcelona had beaten a host of suitors including Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester City to his signature but the 20-year-old has now confirmed that is not true and declared that he is enjoying playing for Santos.
He told Sky Sports: “I do not have an agreement with Barcelona – or anyone else.
“The only thing that I have signed is with Santos and I am happy. This is a great club that I have a contract with until 2014.
“What is most important is to be happy and I am happy with my family, my friends and my club.
“My role now is to help Santos and the Brazil team, and to be the best will come through hard work.”
Neymar has been touted as the next Lionel Messi after making an incredible start to life in South America but the Brazilian was eager to play down the comparisons.
He added: “Nobody can equal Lionel Messi at the moment. He deserves the prize for everything that he did last year.”
Neymar of course has been on the radar of football fans for a couple of seasons now having earned 27 caps for the Brazilian national team and he showed his potential to UK-based fans first hand at the summer London 2012 Olympics whereby he scored in a pre-tournament warm up game against Team GB at Middlesbrough’s Riverside Stadium
