Only £15M, Young, Energetic And Full Of Attacking Quality

Chelsea’s transfer hitlist seems to be growing day after day if the papers are to be believed.

The latest is Germany and Levekusen star Andre Schurrle. The winger/forward impressed during his first season with Bayern Levekusen and caught many peoples eye during Germany’s 4-2 win over Greece at Euro 2012.

Roberto Di Matteo is keen to add another winger/forward to his squad despite the signings of Hazard and Marin. The lack of wingers has been a criticism of Chelsea since the club sold Duff and Robben and it seems Di Matteo agrees as he is looking to add width to his attack next season.

Wigan’s Victor Moses is an apparent target but talks have stalled after Wigan are reluctant to sell and turned down a £4m offer from Chelsea.

Chelsea are ready to test the water with Schurrle by making an introductory offer of £7m for the 21-year-old. Although Levekusen are more likely to ask around the £15m mark for a player who is contracted to them until 2016 and has only spent one full season at the German club.

Chelsea must be careful with the low introductory offers as some clubs – Wigan and Tottenham to name a few – as they may become alienated and feel insulted by ridiculously low offers, this makes the chances of thrashing out a deal more difficult.

This happened with Luka Modric when Daniel Levy felt insulted by Chelsea’s initial £20m offer for a player of his quality. Needless to say a deal did not happen. Dave Whelan also felt the £4m offer for Moses – well reported “offer” – was insulting.

I’m afraid this could happen once more if a £7m offer for Schurrle is tabled. Schurrle seems a good fit for Chelsea, he is young, energetic and full of attacking quality.

I for one have been calling for us to sign another player of Nicolas Anelka’s mould, who can play on either wing, just behind a striker or as a striker himself and Schurrle certainly fits the bill.

Refresh this transfer rumour!

I think Chelsea trying to get some quality player at a lower price as £40mil spend on Hazard and Marin. But it wouldn’t happen easily if Chelsea to offer only £7mil for Schurrle. £10-12mil would be better. Abromovich won’t make mistake again to spend big on striker(Hulk) after Torres setback. I think no Hulk and Modric for Chelsea. Go for Schurrle and Seydou Doumbia instead.
