Out Of Tune Song Won’t Be Mourned At The Emirates

So the departures have continued at the Emirates as Alex Song becomes the latest player to to leave. The midfielder has moved to Barcelona on a five-year contract for a fee of around £15 million. Though he became an established member of the side, how much will Arsenal actually miss him?
Arsene was under no pressure to sell, in fact Song had three years to run on his contract. But since the move was agreed, we have found out that it was the midfielder’s attitude that was the main reason behind the decision. Though he had a decent season, indeed he was voted the second best player last season by supporters behind Van Persie, talk of him being irreplaceable are far from the truth.
Song has a bit of a reckless nature and would sometimes leave his defence exposed. A competent defensive midfielder, should be able to protect his back four, and help those of lesser experience settle. However, Arsenal have conceded 170 goals in the last four seasons.
The problem is that he likes to attack. When in possession, Song will happily push forward, neglecting his defensive duties. This has left Arsenal to be prone to counter-attacks. His poor positioning and lack of pace has hindered his development. But at the end of the day if a player does not want to wear the shirt anymore, it is best for them to leave.
Song will struggle at Barcelona. I do not think he will be able to cope with the pace at which Barca play and their quick-paced passing may catch him out. Unless he adapts, the Barca fans will soon grow frustrated with him.
As for life without him, I believe that he can be replaced. Arsenal have plenty of options in midfield. Add to that the hopeful arrival of Nuri Sahin, and things look positive. Diaby will have to have a big season. If he can remain injury-free, he may be able to slot into the defensive position. However, Arsene may need to invest in that position. Fingers crossed a player like M’Vila can join and provide the back four with some reassurance.
Hopefully Song’s departure will be the last we’ll see this season and we can now concentrate on the task ahead.

You only leave once!!
In a world of players’ agents, hefty commissions, famous clubs and a chance to emulate Eto’o No way Song would have turned his back on this…what would he tell his grand-childern.. Moreover as a player you tell your self if Barca want me then I must be good?*! My gut says he will adapt. Keep his head down, learn the Barca tricks and no partying!!! Oh yes and get a Barca hair cut. Finally lets not forget; many, many, many players would equally jump at the chance to wear an arsenal shirt and Arteta is a good example. I am happy though that Everton got that Belgian guy Kevin Mirallas. Hate to see a club like Everton suffer the way they do. Moyes wore a look of utter dismay when he tried to explain how Arsenal bought Arteta when he had no way to replace him as the window closed … well lets ask Arteta!

A player is a player regardless of the shirt worn, sure theres much pride in an Arsenal shirt, but Mr Song sings wherever he plays, these songs are the expensive love ballads of sport….a business full of trading and hedging….
