Pardew Shouldn’t Hesitate, The Fans Shouldn’t Grumble, Just Sign The Lad
According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle United boss Alan Padrew has been suggesting that he would like to bring Andy Carroll back to his hometown club.
A deal to bring the 6’3” striker back to Newcastle could see Demba Ba move on as talks over a new deal, including the removal of his £7.5 million buyout clause continue to stall . Any potential deal is likely to be dependent on Ba joining Liverpool due to Liverpool’s shortage of recognised strikers.
The Guardian reports that Newcastle manager Alan Padrew said “He’s a Geordie and I think he misses the city. This is his home and at some point I hope he does come back here. Whether that’s in my time, I don’t know. I like him and I liked working with him. He was brilliant for me”
I for one believe that “Big Andy” will be back at the Toon from next summer and clearly Padrew is an admirer, which coupled with Demba Ba’s contract issues could see the big number 9 return to his homeland.
So what are the benefits of this for Newcastle?
If we can bring about the return of the 6’3″ target man then, in my opinion we will see Demba Ba leave as he is a player that has already been frustrated at being played on the left of a 3 pronged attack let alone being potentially left on the bench. On the other hand there were suggestions that Cisse was signed to keep Ba happy as they are both Senegalese and proved last season they are a partnership that like to score goals.
Potentially a Ba, Cisse and Carroll strike force could see Newcastle sacrifice a midfielder (which is highly unlikely) but again it could mean Ba would probably be pushed out left and therefore unlikely to score as many goals as he would like. If it could work as a 3 then it is likely Newcastle will score many goals with creative midfielders such as Ben Arfa, Gutierrez and Cabaye.
In all honesty it would make much more sense to move Ba on and replace him with Carroll and play a team similar to this:
Krul/Simpson/S. Taylor/Coloccini/Santon/Tiote/Cabaye/Gutierrez/Ben Arfa/Cisse/Carroll
And what’s in it for Andy?
For Andy it would mean a return to the place he calls “home”. It would be a return to the good times for “Big Andy” as this was where he gained promotion from the Championship and his top notch performances in a Newcastle shirt turned him into a cult hero with the Toon army whilst earning him a call up to the England squad for a friendly against France in November 2010.
I believe it’s a win win scenario for Andy as he hasn’t got much left to lose as he is loved by the Toon despite the circumstances he left in which have since been seen as a smart piece of business.
Hopefully we will soon see him in a Newcastle top soon and a return to his goal scoring form that made him such a cult hero with the Toon Army.
