Punters in the Football Transfer Tavern were left commiserating in their pints this afternoon after Ajax star Christian Eriksen ruled out a January switch away from Holland.

However the highly rated 20-year-old did leave the door open for a move at the end of the season which will alert the big four in the Premier League to his possible availability.

The young Dane has been the stand out performer for Ajax and his national team in recent years bringing him to the attentions of Europe’s best teams.

Ajax recently crashed out of the Champions League and will now compete in the Europa League which has the final at Eriksen’s home ground – the Amsterdam Arena. The Danish star believes that this could be the perfect opportunity to leave the club by winning the elite European competition and ending his spell in Amsterdam on a high.

He told talkSPORT: “I think my future will be between [at a club in] Spain, England, Italy or Germany. I like these championships and I will see the offers that are presented to me.

“I do not know what I will do in a few months, but before I go I want to make a mark here.

“And the Europa League final at home is a good motivation. I want to leave at the right time and in the right way, because here I have learned so many things and I do not want to leave empty-handed.”

Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United have all been linked with a move for the Eredivisie playmaker and they will all be hopeful of landing the Danish star in the summer.
