Premier League target will not be leaving Barcelona
David Villa is a man in-demand in the Football Transfer Tavern during the January transfer window but hopes of the Spanish striker playing in the Premier League anytime soon have suffered a blow after Barcelona coach Tito Vilanova confirmed that the striker would not be leaving the La Liga leaders.
There were recent reports circulating in the tavern that both Arsenal and Liverpool wanted to bring Villa to England on a short-term deal after he struggled to find first team chances at the Camp Nou since returning from a serious leg injury.
However these suggestions have been quashed by Vilanova who told Sky Sports after his side’s 3-1 victory over Malaga at La Rosaleda on Sunday evening: “David is not going to leave. We are very happy with him.”
Spain’s record goalscorer missed most of last season and then Euro 2012 after breaking his leg in December 2011 but it appears that he still has a future in Catalonia and the Camp Nou.
Vilanova added: “The other day he scored two goals. We’ve always said that he’s coming off a long injury, and he’s getting more minutes all the time. But he’s suffering more physical problems again.
“We know how important he is, like last year when we missed him a lot in the second half of the season.
“I’m convinced he will help us a lot over the remainder of the season.”
