Premiership ‘Sleeping Giant’ In £8M+ Add Ons To Liverpool Over Arsenal
The Wigan man is having somewhat of a resurgence recently and is looking a vital part of the sides push to stay in the Premier League.
These performances have not gone unnoticed, with a few sides casting admiring glances. Newcastle amongst others, who tried to resign him on deadline day after the club initially moved him to Wigan in a swap deal for money plus Ryan Taylor, what a cracking bit of business that turned out to be. Another potential admirer of the moody Frenchman are Liverpool who could really do with a natural winger and are being linked with an £8million move.
N’Zogbia began life in the academy of French side La Havre, but after paying a fee of around £250,000 he moved to St James’ Park. He made his debut in late 2004, and became a regular in the first team during the 2005-2006 season from which point he stayed an important part of the side (apart from a brief spell under Glenn Roeder).
A fan favourite on Tyneside, who would brilliantly chant ‘Zog On The Tyne’ when he was playing, it didn’t take long to turn sour. After a very public falling out with Geordie boss Joe Kinnear, N’Zogbia was moved to Wigan in a deal worth £6million plus Ryan Taylor.
At Wigan he once again proved his qualities and demonstrated that he is a talented Premiership wide man. In May 2010 he couldn’t agree personal terms in a £9million switch to Birmingham and he remained with the Lancashire side for this current season, but it now appears that he may be on the move again this Summer and it could finally be an opportunity for the player to demonstrate his skills on a bigger stage.
The left winger is extremely quick and skilled with the ball at his feet, he can beat a man with both his pace as well as dribbling skills. He can cause problems when crossing from wide areas and he also offers a good degree of defensive coverage due to playing some games at left back for Newcastle.
The player has often been linked to moves to bigger clubs, but there have always been questions over his temperament. It appears in recent times that he is improving on that front, and there is now interest from numerous parties. Arsene Wenger has been a long time admirer of the player, and he has been linked with moves to Arsenal on more than one occasion. There is still interest from Newcastle and now we can add Liverpool to the string of admirers as Kenny Dalglish continues his search for a proper winger, something the Merseyside club have not had for some time!
The player would be a great signing for most Premier League sides, I cannot help but feel he may be more suited to Liverpool than Arsenal, and to me a return to Tyneside seems somewhat unlikely. He would fit into the Liverpool side well, and with his excellent crossing ability, Andy Carroll could flourish.
The fee quoted is around £8million, which in some ways seems a little on the low side, and it could easily rise to about £10million to persuade Wigan to sell one of their prize assets. However, should they be relegated, N’Zogbia could be available at a cut price as part of a large fire sale at the Lancashire club.
