Independent journalist Ian Herbert has set tongues wagging in the Football Transfer Tavern this evening after reporting that Patrice Evra could be set to leave Old Trafford to return to France with Paris Saint Germain.

It was thought that Ashley Cole was the player that PSG wanted to resolve their left-back issue but Herbert confirms over a game of darts with the locals that countryman Evra has been elevated to the top of their wanted list.

The 31-year-old French international is a boyhood fan of the Paris-based club and is thought to be keen on the opportunity to move onto a even larger salary at Qatar funded side.

Any forthcoming transfer would probably suit both parties with United pocketing a reported £5 million for the left back whose form has been inconsistent of late while Evra could finish his career back in his home country.

United would have to find a straight replacement for the left-back with neither Fabio or summer signing Alexander Buttner showing anything near the form required to start for the Old Trafford outfit but this may be a rumour that picks up the pace as the transfer window approaches.

Do you think it’s time for Evra to pack his bags and leave Old Trafford? Vote in our polls below.
