We all agree here in the Football Transfer Tavern that Harry Redknapp is sure to provide us with plenty of entertainment over the course of the January transfer window, and Tony Banks of the Daily Express thinks he may be about to snatch a big name signing from under the noses of Newcastle United.
QPR are understood to be locked in talks with Marseille over a potential £11 million deal for striker Loic Remy – the man Alan Pardew was thought to have lined up as a replacement for Demba Ba.
Harry Redknapp reportedly even flew to France yesterday to watch Remy in action in the French Cup, and is thought to have made the striker his number one target this January.
Marseille sporting director Jose Anigo said: “The only window we could open this winter is for Remy. If a big club comes in and is interested, then we will see.”
Redknapp has so far only bought in defender Tal Ben Haim on a free transfer, and was disappointed to miss out on a move for Joe Cole, who opted to rejoin West Ham United.
A successful bid for Remy would be considered a major coup for Redknapp however, with the former Tottenham manager certain that the French international is the man to score the goals to save QPR from relegation.
