David SilvaNo sooner had Rob said his piece and gone for a game of pool, when Chris Bascombe of The News of the World turns the Video Jukebox off and tells us that Liverpool “are facing another battle” with La Liga giants Real Madrid for “long-term target” David Silva at Valencia.

Chris claiming that Reds manager Rafa Benitez “is ready to revive a bid” for the Spanish International if he “is forced to sell” Xabi Alonso to Los Blancos for “£25million”

It said that Benitez “fears” that due to the “new 50% tax law” and a “poor rate” on the Euro it is “impossible to compete” with the Spanish sides.

Bascombe finishing by telling us, that Real “are closing in” on Silva, with any attempt to “use funds” from the Alonso sale by Benitez lying “scuppered” and that the former Los Che coach “is also prepared to sacrifice” Albert Riera, who only arrived at Anfield last summer “to raise funds” to prise Silva from the Mestalla.

So was it water, wine or whisky that caused the airing of this tale? Is Rafa really ready to revive his interest in the Spanish winger? Should this rumour Fly or Die?
