With their club languishing at the bottom of the Premier League, life has been pretty gloomy for QPR fans in the Football Transfer Tavern recently but a Sky Sports report has put a smile back on their faces with news that Harry Redknapp is planning to bring nomadic forward Nicolas Anelka to the club in the January transfer window.
The Shanghai Shenhua striker has a wealth of Premier League experience and could be the man to fire the goals to keep the Hoops in the Premier League. Although Redknapp refused to be drawn on whether Anelka was a realistic target in the upcoming window he did admit that the striker was likely to be in high demand.
“He is a good player, a quality player,” Redknapp told Sky Sports. “If he’s available he will be of interest to people.
“As far as I know he’s gone to China – I don’t know what the situation is with that.”
Redknapp is set to meet with R’s owner Tony Fernandes next week to discuss the best way to take the club forward and decide on potential transfer targets. However it is thought that he will be limited to short-term loan signings given the clubs precarious position at the foot of the Premier League.
Elsewhere, the Loftus Road outfit look set to seal their first signing under Redknapp after taking former Bolton, Chelsea and West Ham centre-back Tal Ben-Haim on trial with an option for a short-term deal and Anelka could well be another part of the rebuilding progress in West London.
