His name just keeps cropping up here in the Football Transfer Tavern and Stuart Rayner of The Journal has informed us over a pint that the likes of Newcastle United and QPR also face fierce competition from Germany for the signature of Marseille’s Loic Remy.

The 26-year-old forward is in hot demand at present, with it understood that both Borussia Dortmund and Schalke are interested in securing his signature.

The news will come as a blow to Magpies boss Alan Pardew, who had earmarked the forward as the man to replace Demba Ba who recently departed for Chelsea, whilst QPR manager Harry Redknapp also wants Remy to be the man to fire Queens Park Rangers to safety. Whether Remy would relish a relegation battle with the Hoops remains to be seen however.

French newspaper L’Equipe has quoted Remy as saying: “I know of Newcastle’s interest, but I would like to play in Germany.”

Schalke and Dortmund are set to battle it out for his signature, with the latter possibly preparing for life without highly rated Polish forward Robert Lewandowski, who has been a long term target for Manchester United.

Newcastle hope to hold further talks with the Marseille forward’s representatives this week in a bid to persuade them that a move to the Premier League would be a better option.

Will Remy snub the Premier League for Germany instead? Vote in our polls below.
