Rodgers Interest In £10M Wide Man First Alarm Bell For Downing?

New Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has wasted no time in chasing transfer targets as he looks to return Liverpool to their former glory.

The Sun among others suggest Rodgers is chasing Roma’s 21-year-old former Chelsea and Swansea striker Fabio Borini.

The Italian forward scored 9 goals in 24 games for Roma during a loan spell – which became permenant – but recieved much praise during his first full season in Serie A culminating in his inclusion of Italy’s Euro 2012 squad.

The Italian is rated at £10m but Rodgers may not see Borini as a risk as he knows the player very well. Rodgers coached Borini as a youngster when Rodgers was Chelsea’s youth chief and later took the player on loan during Swansea’s promotion winning season in which Borini scored 6 goals in 9 games.

Rodgers surely knows how to get the best out of Borini and the price for a promising 21-year-old seems reasonible but where will he fit in?

Rodgers only played with one forward during his time at Swansea which you would assume will be Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll as back up so Rodgers may see Borini playing out wide which may spell danger for Stuart Downing, Jordan Henderson or Maxi Rodriguez.

It’s also reported Liverpool are closing in on Gylfi Sigurdsson who’s move to Swansea hit the rocks after Rodgers departure.

Next season after Rodgers transfer embargo on Swansea players is lifted then you must believe he will target some of his former players which could mean Liverpool’s flops from last season must impress Rodgers or face the axe.

Refresh this transfer rumour!

The very day Stuart Downing arrived at Anfield, the alarm bell he brought along with him has been ringing loud and clear ever since.

Suarez will likely play from the left. Borini has just been signed outright by Roma by the sounds of it anyway.

Borini has already signed for Roma at the time that this was published!?! What’s more he’s been quoted as saying that a move to Liverpool has never been in his thoughts… So this is old news/speculation I’m afraid
