He is a firm favourite in the Football Transfer Tavern and it seems he is fast becoming one of the hottest properties in football as Marouane Fellaini is getting yet more attention, this time from Zenit Saint Petersburg.
ESPN report that the Belgium international has placed himself firmly on the Russian’s radar after scoring eight times in the clubs opening 15 games. He is set to be subject of a bid in the January transfer window, with the player himself stating that despite signing a contract until 2016 “I am just starting my fifth season at Everton, this will be one of my last. I have seen everything. In January or at the end of the season I will turn to another club or championship.”
Chelsea are also reportedly preparing a £30 million bid for the player they have identified as someone who can make a real difference in their struggling side.
For his part, Toffees boss David Moyes has responded bullishly to the rumours stating that there will be a ‘big price on his head,’ and given the form of the player they paid £15 million for in 2008, that is no surprise. However this may not deter clubs with deep pockets, with Chelsea lining up a bid for the player Mikel Arteta recently claimed as one of the most difficult midfielders to play against and capable to “lead the club to a top four finish.”
