Should Spurs Cash-In Modric For Los Blancos Millions?

Luka Modric is Tottenham Hotspur’s most expensive signing costing £16.5 million, and it looks like he might be their biggest departure too. The Daily Mail have reported that Real Madrid are keeping their eyes on the Croatian as they start to put in formal bids for the Spurs playmaker in an attempt to bring him to La Liga.
If you look at last season’s impact, it would be obvious to anyone that they should cash in the £30-35 million and re-invest the money into a younger player.
Last season, Luka Modric assisted 4 goals in the Premier League last season in 36 appearances. Similarly, Assou-Ekotto, the Tottenham left back also assisted 4 goals last season. Whilst Modric did score 2 more goals than Benny last season by totalling up four, how can a player be labelled as a playmaker by the tabloids if they assist the same number of goals as a defender!
With rumours circulating that Kaka could join Spurs as part of that deal which would see Modric join Real Madrid, it would be stupid for Spurs not to accept.
Last season, Kaka started 17 games and came on as a substitute for 10 games, which totaled up to 27 appearances in La Liga. Yet Kaka managed to score 5 goals last season (1 more than Modric) and also assisted 7 goals, which is only 3 more than Modric. So Kaka directly took part in 12 goals last season in 27 games in comparison to Modric’s 8 goals in 34 games.
If you were to include Kaka’s four Champions League starts for Madrid last season too, as well as his substitution into play 4 four times after coming on from the bench, that would add 3 goals and 5 assists to his already impressive total.
But, the only thing which I believe is stopping this deal is Kaka’s age. The Brazillian is 30 years old and although he does play more attacking football than Modric, he has proven that he can fit into Modric’s midfield slot. Even if the board were not happy with Kaka fulfilling this role, surely he could be seen as an upgrade to Van Der Vaart, which could see Spurs cash in £10 million for the Dutchman to move to Schalke.
I would love to see Kaka come to White Hart Lane. Modric made it clear last season that he did not want to stay at Spurs without Champions League football.
Whilst some can argue that it was Modric’s negative attitude in the latter part of the season combined with his poor performances which saw Spurs failing to qualify for the Champions League, it is clearly shown in the press that every European club wants him.
With PSG, United, City, Chelsea and Madrid all wanting the midfielder, the decision will fall on Levy to accept the best deal for Modric when he eventually leaves the Lane this summer.

Transfer Rumours 24/7

The Kaka deal sounds perfect for Spurs. We stand to lose nothing on the pitch and make a tidy profit to further strengthen the team.Best of all it would finally mark the end of the Modric saga which all real Spurs fans have had quite enough of.Get rid of him and move on.We are bigger than he realises. Can’t wait to see how he enjoys life in Real’s reserves, whinging little rat!

Kaka is on about £220k a week more than double what Spurs will be willing to pay. Non starter. Steve steve72 speak for yourself the real fans attend games and realise Spurs will not be able to get a player of Modric’s class to replace him.

All day long, YES, take 30 plus kaka although i would prefer 25 plus Sahin

Come on guys are you that stupid to take this seriously? So Modric’s former International team mate and friend says that he’s close to finalising a deal with RM as reported in the daily fail, no mention of Daniel Levy what so ever agreeing to this phantom deal, no mention of Mourinho or any RM official ivolvement. So Modric took it upon himself to take time out from the EURO’S to fly to Madrid, have a medical and negotiate his transfer did he? In the meantime Daniel Levy sits with his thumb up his arse none the wiser about this phantom transaction? Dont you find it at all odd? Dont worry though, the randoms at the fail will dream up another story about Spurs, Modric and Bale before the end of the week and the following week it’ll be Sandro and Walker the next two out the door.

Modric is gone. There is no way we will be able to keep him hostage for another season. Best sell him to Madrid than to city utd or chelsea. The offer is £35m plus a player. You heard it here first!
June 18th, 2012
get nuri sahin as a part exchange i would be happy
June 18th, 2012
Shame you bitter spurs fans don’t realise what a player you have on your hands. His best assets are not to assist or score goals. He’s one of the best at creating opportunities in the final third, giving the pass before the assist, keeping the ball, stats do not tell everything…
June 18th, 2012
i completely agree with this the balls he plays to bale, VDV and lennon to then make one more pass to another player to score would show his true ability

You obviously didn’t see the 2nd post. The things that Luka does are not always shown on TV.
June 18th, 2012
Sahin and money and we’d be laughing
June 18th, 2012
Luka will want to go for sure now Harry has been sacked and Spurs eyes will light up with £££ signs so it is a no brainer he will leave.
But anyone thinking Spurs can get an upgrade on Modric is crazy.

30 million plus kaka or 40-45 million i dont see levy accepting much less than that for a player with four years left on his contract and in top form at euros, tottenham hold all the cards in any modric deal as his price wont drop much over the next two season and will still have two years left on his contract which means there is still no urgency to sell

Rubbish, rubbish rumour and would be a bad deal for Spurs anyway. As a Chelsea fan it’s odd to fee sorry for Spurs fans but this kind of rumour even winds ME up with it’s crassness.
Last week the Fail was palming Kaka’s daft wages off on us and now we’re expected to think it’s possible Levy would pay them AND lose the superior, vital Modric to boot? Why force the guy to stay and then just saddle yourself with £235,000 PW for a guy past his best and untried in the EPL and with zero sell on and at nearly 31? Daft as they come and a way worse offer than thee 40 mil they could have got Chelsea to go to last season.
Had Modric and Croatia been amazing at the Euros then, maybe, you might see prices like those offered last year but
Real classically UNDERPAY and get unsettled players to STRIKE to ensure it.
Chelsea are easy to squeeze but with Real and Utd the new suitors I’d cap the offers at £25-30 million including(not extra)players. I’m not saying you should have sold to your London rivals-it was worth a shot at the CL qualification with him imho-but if value is key it might’ve been the best price you’d ever get. Either way, both the cash and payer price is rubbish as is the chance of Tottenham paying Kaka enough.
