A big transfer story concerning Manchester United has reached us here in the Football Transfer Tavern, with Greg Heffer of the Daily Star reckoning that two South American stars could soon be on their way to Old Trafford.
Portuguese newspaper Record have reported that United are keen to bring in Benfica pair Ezequiel Garay and Nicolas Gaitan in a deal that could cost up to £40 million.
United came close to signing 24-year-old Argentina international Gaitan in April when the Telegraph reported that a deal had been agreed, only for United to be put off later by the playmakers £30m price tag.
That has not stopped United renewing their interest however, and Old Trafford officials were understood to be watching the pair in action against Porto on Sunday night.
Former Real Madrid man Garay has also been attracting attention, although a move may be complicated by the fact that Madrid would be entitled to half of the transfer fee as part of the agreement when they sold the Argentine to the Lisbon-based side.
