Sir Alex To Plunder Fan’s Favourite – Possible But Surely Unlikely?

Manchester United are set to make a raid on Tottenham for Brazilian midfielder Sandro, if Caughtoffside.com are to be believed.

So far this season United have not shown any real desire to strengthen their midfield in the January transfer window, with a long term replacement for Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, plus an additional winger should Nani be moved on, higher up United’s shopping list this winter.

However should the Red Devils decide that they need to reinvigorate their centre midfield, a more defensive-minded middleman will be high on their list of priorities.

The 23-year-old, who has featured heavily for Spurs, this season could fit the bill as the robust, tough tackling midfielder that United are looking for.  However Sandro is unlikely to be Sir Alex Ferguson’s first choice to fill the midfield void. That honour falls to with PSV Eindhoven’s Kevin Strootman, who is the most likely central midfield target to join United in January.

Additionally Ferguson may want to experiment with the Phil Jones in the holding midfield role, on a more regular basis this season. The 20-year-old has yet to really settle into a defined position at Old Trafford and the United boss may feel that the young starlet has what it takes to be United’s next tough tackling, ball winner.

As rumours go, a move taking Sandro from White Hart Lane to Old Trafford is not totally implausible, but at the same time highly unlikely. However stranger things have happened.
