There’s a sense of excitement in the Football Transfer Tavern this morning after Daily Telegraph journalist Jeremy Wilson exclaimed that Tottenham’s Gareth Bale has given his clearest indication yet that he is looking to move to Spain in the near future.

Both Barcelona and Real Madrid are known to be keen admirers of the 23-year-old and Bale yesterday spoke of his interest in playing outside of the Premier League.

He told the Daily Telegraph: “It would be nice to experience other leagues and other cultures,” he said. “I’m not afraid to go abroad. If the time comes and a team that’s right comes in for me, then I’ll look at it seriously. I’ll see what happens.”

Wilson explains that the timing of Bale’s comments is substantial as Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas appeared to hint last week that he could leave if the club received the right offer. However he did later release a statement stating that the club had ‘no intention’ of letting their best player leave.

Bale is currently contracted to the White Hart Lane outfit until 2016 however it is thought that an bid of around £50 million may be sufficient with the Welsh international eager to test himself at one of the biggest teams in the world.

Will Bale be still around White Hart Lane next season or is he jetting off to Spain in the near future? Vote in our polls below.

I wonder how long clubs like Barcelona and Real Madrid and their massive club payrolls and combined debt (E1190) survive in a Spanish economy with 25% and growing unemployment rate?
