We have just received some breaking news in the Football Transfer Tavern, reported by Metro journalist Jamie Sanderson that Tottenham Hotspur are lining up a surprise January swoop for Celtic’s prolific striker Gary Hooper.

Our landlord has learnt that Spurs are ready to rival Norwich City for the former Grays Athletic and Scunthorpe United hitman.

Norwich have already had a £5 million offer rejected for the forward, who has netted 20 times for the Parkhead club, after he attracted Premier League attention with his fine displays for Celtic during their exploits in the Champions League group stages.

After coming through the Spurs academy as a youngster, the Tottenham supporter’s head will be surely be turned by this interest from his beloved club.

Tottenham are looking for reinforcements in attack during the window and a move for the prolific forward man makes sense.

Harry Redknapp’s QPR and Liverpool are also thought to be ready to join the bidding war for the 24-year-old who is valued at £8m by the SPL leaders.

Villas-Boas is expecting to wait to see who else comes in for Hooper and could be set to make a deadline day bid to force Celtic’s hand and snare the impressive marksman.

Is Hooper the calibre of striker Spurs should be looking at? Vote in our polls below.

Tbh if Villas-Boas waits until deadline day to make a bid then I really can’t see the deal going through. If Celtic do decide to sell Hooper then they will probably want to do it with enough time left to bring in a replacement rather than risk facing Juventus in February without one.

That having been said, if Lennon chooses to view Stokes return from injury as being the equivalent of making a new signing will then I guess there’s a very small possibility that I’m wrong in my assumption.

THis has to go forward asap. I am going to disagree and say that Levy won’t be so trusting in other people this market and AVB should be pushing to seal this deal this week.

Hooper would be interesting to see if he could cut it in the Prem. Not sure he would come to us after we released him 10 years ago as a 14 yr old.

As someone posted above I really like the look of Wifried Bony strong powerful and has a rocket of a shot.
