There are a few whispers developing in the Football Transfer Tavern this evening that Tottenham are set to make a £7.5 million bid for River Plate winger Carlos Sanchez in the January transfer window.

The in-demand rumours were initiated by a Mirror Football report that suggested that the White Hart Lane outfit had been scouting the 28-year-old and had been impressed with his performances in Argentina.

The Uruguayan wide man would certainly give Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas further options as the club looks to mount a successful tilt at securing Champions League qualification as well as maintaining their Europa League campaign.

Villas-Boas knows he needs to have a squad capable of competing on two fronts and has been linked with several wide players in recent weeks including Wilian, Christian Atsu, Dries Mertens, Daniel Sturridge, Wilfried Zaha, and Tom Ince.

Other names thought to be on the Portuguese mangers shopping list for the January transfer window include strikers Fernando Llorente and Alvaro Negredo while  Joao Moutinho, who was so close to signing for the side during the summer window, remains a target.

Would bringing in Sanchez be a bold move by AVB or should we let this rumour drop? Vote in our polls below.
