Stoke land American winger in £2.5m deal
The day is drawing to a close in the Football Transfer Tavern but before we shut up shop, news breaks that Stoke City have finally completed the signing of American international winger Brek Shea on a £2.5 million deal.
Shea, 22, successfully won his appeal at a Wembley hearing earlier today which ensured his move from FC Dallas subject to international clearance.
“It’s fantastic news that we have been able to push through the deal,” Potters boss Tony Pulis told Sky Sports.
“Brek is a very, very exciting player, and one who we firmly believe could go on to become an outstanding player for this football club.
Shea passed a medical earlier today but the deal was delayed as he didn’t qualify for a work permit which resulted in the appeal of mitigating circumstances.
“It’s been up and down, trying to figure out what’s going on, but I’m here now and ready to go,” said Shea who has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal with the Potters.
He added: “It’s one of the best Leagues in the world, and I’m excited to be here and hopefully I can contribute.”
Stoke have also completed the signing of Birmingham City goalkeeper Jack Butland on another four-and-a-half-year contract.
