Stoke target Arsenal defender on loan
We all agree it’s been a quiet transfer window for Stoke City here in the Football Transfer Tavern, but John Cross of the Daily Mirror reckons the club are poised to make a loan move for an Arsenal defender.
Potters boss Tony Pulis is keen to take England youngster Carl Jenkinson on loan for the remainder of the season, with Wigan Athletic, West Ham United and Fulham also reportedly keen.
However, it is thought Arsene Wenger is reluctant to let Jenkinson depart, as he believes he will need him between now and the end of the season.
Jenkinson started the season as Arsenal’s number one right back, filling in for the injured Bacary Sagna.
The 20-year-old was so impressive in fact, he earned his first England call up coming on as a substitute in the 4-2 defeat to Sweden in November last year.
Arsene Wenger views him as Arsenal’s first choice right back for the future, especially considering Bacary Sagna is expected to leave the club for either the Middle East or Inter Milan in the summer.
Jenkinson – a life long Gunners fan – was rewarded for his early season form with a new long-term contract, and will be hoping to feature strongly during the second half of the season, with Sagna struggling for form.
Stoke are especially keen to take the youngster on loan in a bid to solve their right back problems, but have so far been knocked back by Wenger in their pursuit.
