Striking target mulling over Chelsea transfer
The possibility of Brazilian forward Neymar making a move to the Premier League has got supporters very excited in the Football Transfer Tavern, but David McDonall of the Daily Mirror reckons the striker is not so keen on the club that are showing the most interest in him.
Manchester City are reportedly set to make a summer bid for the highly rated forward, but Neymar himself has issued a snub of sorts by claiming he wants to join a ‘big’ club like Barcelona, Real Madrid or Premier League rivals Chelsea.
Rated at £50 million, Neymar is expected to leave Santos in the summer for a big European club, with Barcelona now the favourites for his signature.
City had hoped to put themselves in pole position for a move, but have been knocked back by the 21-year-olds quotes regarding the Catalan giants.
“Who wouldn’t dream about playing alongside Lionel Messi, Xavi and [Andres] Iniesta?” said Neymar. “They’re all great players.
“I dream of playing in Europe, for a big club like Barcelona, Real Madrid and Chelsea.
“Yes, Barcelona [impress me the most], they have great players like Xavi, Iniesta, Cesc Fabregas and Dani Alves.
“But there’s no point in speculating when I’ll leave Santos. I’ll leave when I want to.
“I don’t know where I would fit in if I joined Barca, but I know my place is at Santos right now.”
City meanwhile are planning a summer clear out of up to ten players following a disappointing campaign, whilst the future of manager Roberto Mancini also remains up in the air.
