Sturridge Scheming To Split From Stamford Bridge?

Reports suggest Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge could quit Stamford Bridge over his England squad snub.

The reports suggest Sturridge blames Chelsea and the then interim but now permanent Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo for his exclusion from England’s Euro 2012 squad.

Sturridge was a prominent performer under Andre Villas-Boas but following his departure found appearances hard to come by.

Di Matteo preferred Drogba, Torres and Kalou ahead of Sturridge who scored 13 goals for the club last season. It is thought Di Matteo was unkeen on Sturridge’s lack of defensive responsibility especially when it came to the big games.

Many Chelsea fans also lost faith in Sturridge as he became increasingly selfish preferring to shot or take players on rather than pass. Couple this with his seemingly relaxed attitude to defending – one of the most notable examples being Andre Santos’ goal at Stamford Bridge in the 5-3 defeat to Arsenal – started to get the Chelsea faithful and I’m sure some of his team mates on his back.

Internet rumours also suggested Di Matteo sat Sturridge down for an hour at training and made him watch tapes of himself whilst explaining where he was going wrong before explaining that if his attitude towards team play and defending did not improve he would not play, although these rumours were unconfirmed.

Sturridge’s current Chelsea contract expires in 2014 and the club have been reluctant to extend his deal, worth £65,000-a-week.

Reports claim Sturridge will state a move away is needed to ‘revive’ his England career, which is funny because I didn’t know he had one in the first place. Sturridge was left out of the squad in favour of players like Milner and Downing because they do the things Sturridge will not, work as part of a team and defend when needed. Sturridge has no one to blame but himself for missing out.

The signing of Hazard and Marin, and reported interest in Hulk along with the permanent appointment of Di Matteo will push Sturridge further down the pecking order and I see an exit as likely.

Arsenal, former club Man City, Liverpool and Tottenham have all been touted as possible destinations.

Sturridge could be used by Chelsea as a makeweight as part of a deal for Theo Walcott but quite honestly I can’t see him walking into the Arsenal team. He would certainly struggle to get into the Man City side, look at Adam Johnson, he’s a better player than Sturridge but can barely get a sniff.

Liverpool would be a desirable option if he wants more regular football as competition is more limitted than at the other clubs but Tottenham would be another difficult team to break into especially if he wanted to dislodge Bale or Lennon, but they may see him as a centre forward – which he constantly claims he is – as a replacement for Adebayor.

Either way I don’t see too many people missing Sturridge if he leaves the Bridge and unless his attitude changes he will never realise his potential and Chelsea will surely get the better end of any deal.

Refresh this transfer rumour!

Can’t wait for him to be sold(if it happens)! I’d use him as a partial make weight for modric or Any other player we are interested in. His selfishness has no bound and Di Matteo took no time to bench him. He only has his self
    To
Blame for the England snub and like you said…”I didn’t even know he had one”. Bought him rather low and we should get Atleast 15 to 20 million euros for him I imagine. Good business if ya ask me!

Very well said! Sell him for at least 15 million pounds if he refuses to extend his contract. At least, even bolton held out for 16 million for Cahill, & Nasri was sold for 25 with just a year remaining.

Best thing for him though is to remain & continue his development with chelsea while he’s made 2nd choice only to Torres as main striker! He would not walk into any top 6 team in EPL (not even liverpool)

Have you forgotten that players like Gervinho often get games? Is Sturridge not better Gerrvinho?

There is no reason why we should get rid of him. He is exactly what Chelsea are looking for- Young, highly skillful, players with pace. I think he just needs some time to adjust and once he does he will be great. He wants to play as a striker so now that Kalou and Drogba are leaving I don’t see a reason why we shouldn’t give him that chance.
Torres will be our number 1 striker Roman has make that clear, but now Dan should get an opportunity to play that position as well

Sturridge was tied as our 2nd leading scorer last year w/ 13 goals and he barely even played in the later parts of the season. Plus, Lamps was the only one who had more goals (16) and tied with Drogba and both of took PK’s throughout the year which gives them an advantage.
I just don’t know why Chelsea fans would want to get rid of such an obviously natural talent. Let’s cut the lad a break and give him a chance to excel in the Chelsea Blue!

If he is blaming Chelsea and blames them for ruining his chances of playing for the national team, then we should clap for him and hail him for being a natural talent…. you must be kidding me. He is a raw talent, that we know at least we bought him and uses him but you will agree with me that in most of the matches he didn,t play, he wasn’t so obviously a better substitute to those that were in the match. If he keep on seeing himself as what he is not and can’t learn how to learn and be level headed…… then he should go with his talent. we will make do with what we have.

Agree with Kyle, he has talent and we should rush letting him go. Although I only see Sturridge as the perfect “back-up” player to provide cover up front and for the wings. I don’t see him as good enough to be a regular starter in a chelsea shirt! He is exactly the same as Kalou, in his head he is a striker but in reality he is far better on the wings! Every one sees it but him! But we have him, so keep him, he surely isn’t the worst player in the game and maybe he’ll surprise us!

Get rid of him he was our best striker last year overall!!!! He has talent and is assured of his ability he has no problem skipping past Players and scoring(not afraid of a shot either unlike torres) he is just what we need!!!! give him a chane in the centre which he craves!!! Give him a go I the centre he might come out and be fantastic bagging loads of goals!!!! An you go on about defensive ability he’s a striker how many others have defensive ability very few get off his case he is only young still so why pay 40 mil for players we have decent enough if we let him go it will be our loss I guarantee!!!!!
