Sunderland set for striker disappointment
Agents chatting about their clients in the press is slowly becoming a key part of the January transfer window and in the Football Transfer Tavern today we have another after Sunderland target Mauro Zarate’s agent declared the player is happy at Lazio and wants to stay to fight for his place.
The Black Cats were thought to be leading the chase to sign the Argentine forward and he was widely expected to leave the Italian club during January.
However his agent Luis Ruzzi has now admitted, as reported by talkSPORT, that the player does not want to leave despite interest from England and is ready to see out his contract at the Stadio Olimpico.
Ruzzi told Calciomercato.it: “There isn’t any market news and our position is clear: we are ready to continue together with the club.
“Mauro has another year-and-a-half contract with Lazio and we want to stay, unless we find a good solution.
“Rumours about Genoa, Besiktas and Sunderland? There have been contacts with some clubs and it is true that I met the (Genoa) president Enrico Preziosi, but it is up to the clubs to find an agreement.
Harry Redknapp’s QPR were also understood to be watching proceedings as the former Birmingham City loan-man continues talks with Lazio about a possible transfer out of Italy.
Zarate hasn’t managed to feature for Argentina at full senior international level, only appearing for the Under-20 side in 2007 but showed English audiences a glimpse of his talents during that spell at St. Andrews back in 2008 where he joined from Qatari outfit Al-Sadd proving that the player has been around the block, sampling many divisions.
