The 23-year-old look ready to sign for Martin O’Neill’s side in a £3.5 million deal in the next few days. He has five caps for France and Black Cats scouts have followed the player’s progression with the French side alongside West Ham United and Everton who were also thought to be interested.
Toulouse have made the Frenchman available with his contract set to expire in the summer and they are determined to get a fee for the midfielder by selling him now with Sunderland preparing a bid.
Although the deal represents good value for money there is believed to be a large agent’s fee involved which has put off some Premier League clubs. Sunderland, however, are willing to stump up the funds as they look to move themselves away from the bottom of the Premier League.
The Black Cats have already brought another Frenchman to the Stadium of Light this January in Bursaspor’s Alfred N’Diaye and O’Neill is also lining up a move for Swansea City’s Danny Graham who could be on the move after falling behind Michu in the pecking order at the Liberty Stadium.
