Celta Vigo striker off limits this January
Here at the Football Transfer Tavern like the rest of Europe, we are on the look out for the next wonder signing after Swansea City made an inspired decision to sign Michu for £2 million in the summer. Sky Sports journos produce a sigh here with the news that it will not be Spanish forward Iago Aspas.
The Celta Vigo striker has been instrumental for the La Liga outfit this season and has looked like a top notch player. As our landlord point out, Swansea manager Michael Laudrup has an intimate knowledge of the game in Spain and when he says a player is good, you usually know they are!
Aspas had been linked with a move to the Premier League this winter, yet the player himself has come out to deny these rumours, claiming: “I have read many things saying I was going to go in the winter, but they are not true. Already it has been said several times that at least I will be here until June 30, then we’ll see what’s best for the club and for me.”
With a growing reputation and over four years left on his current deal, the player will certainly command a decent price in the summer should he leave. Aspas also stated: “I have been at Celta 17 years and I am very proud to belong to this club.”
Iago Aspas currently has forward competition at Celta Vigo in the form of forgotten Arsenal loan man and South Korean international Park Chu Young – remember him!
