After Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher announced that he is to retire from football at the end of the season, Liverpool will be in desperate need to add another central defender to their squad.
Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger have not been the most dependable players this season and the jury is still out on Sebastian Coates so Brendan Rodgers will obviously be keen to strengthen at the back come the summer.
As Rodgers expressed in January, the Reds will not be splashing the cash like other teams around them anymore and after adding two attacking options to his squad last month in Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho, he can now focus on the defensive areas in the close season.
Qualifying for Europe could be vital in terms of the calibre of player Liverpool can go for in the summer as the top defenders are unlikely to choose a club that is struggling to qualify for the Europa League.
However, with the reputation of the club and having the players of the quality of Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez, things are starting to look up for the Reds and so if they can find a suitable replacement for Carragher to bolster their back line it could be a profitable season next year for Rodgers and co.
Here are my top five players to replace Jamie Carragher at Liverpool.
