While all the attention may be fully focused on finishing this season inside the all important top four of the Premier League to ultimately secure Champions League football again next season, talk in the Football Transfer Tavern has broke out among Arsenal fans about who Arsene Wenger should include in his expected summer clear out.
The long serving boss has made it clear that he is preparing to streamline his bulky squad as he looks to move from having a vast quantity of players to possessing extra quality. He knows that he needs to improve the current squad that are only capable of challenging for a Champions League place but to do this he must decrease the club’s considerable wage bill.
A number of players are hovering around the fringes at the Emirates Stadium, picking up large wages but contributing next to nothing to the team or have even been loaned out in the hope of securing a permanent exit.
While signing the likes of Santi Cazorla, Lukas Podolski and Mikel Arteta, Wenger has also made costly mistakes during transfer windows gone by and he has been left paying for these with a lack of excellence in his first team meaning it is proving challenging to finish in fourth place.
Wenger will now be keen to take advantage of the summer to clear the decks at the Emirates Stadium with the aim of challenging for major honours in the future.
Punters in the tavern have now come up with a list of five players that have struggled to impose themselves on Wenger’s team this season and are likely to be departing soon.
