Here in the Football Transfer Tavern, Metro report that Fulham have pulled off a rather impressive coup and netted Tottenham midfielder Scott Parker.
The London club have fought off competition from Championship outfit Queens Park Rangers to land Parker, and as one of our punters quips, it is rather impressive that Martin Jol has matched the wages that QPR were offering.
Parker chose Fulham over relegated QPR and Harry Redknapp due to his desire to play in the top flight of English football while trying to get a place in England’s World Cup squad next summer.
Parker spoke to the media after signing for the Cottagers and noted: “I’m delighted to be joining Fulham and I’m looking forward to meeting my new team-mates at training Tuesday morning.
“Fulham is an established Premier League club and I look forward to trying to help the team progress even further over the next three years.”
Fulham have been impressive this transfer window, yet managed to stay under the radar and have not paid over the odds for any player – something we find quite impressive here in the tavern.
Martin Jol has managed to bring in a host of new faces and thus far, the likes of Darren Bent, Adel Taarabt, Maarten Stekelenburg, Sascha Riether, Fernando Amorebieta and Derek Boateng have all joined the Craven Cottage-based club.
Clearly Parker thinks that Fulham will have a chance of making a decent first of it this season and could well even push for the top end of the table.
