One of our most frequent conversations at the Football Transfer Tavern has sparked up again at the bar, as Darren Lewis of the Daily Mirror has told us a certain manager from North London has been to watch Joao Moutinho…again.
Moutinho is one of the most coveted properties in world football and long standing admirer Andre Villas-Boas had been to watch the 26-year-old during Porto’s Champions League tie this week in Paris. Of course £22 million rated Moutinho nearly made the move to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer but the deal did not quite go through and it looks increasingly likely that it will be revisited again this winter.
As our Landlord points out, AVB is a frequent visitor to watch Porto as he claims “It is good to see people that are important to me.” Whilst one doubts he will be making the trip across London to the Bridge anytime soon, it is understandable he would go back to his old club and familiarise himself with some former players.
Spurs have been making good progress in the Premier League of late and with AVB also taking the cup competitions seriously, it is no surprise he is desperate to land a player who called him “One of the best coaches in Europe.”
