It looks like it will be a busy few days for Tottenham supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern with the impending departure of Gareth Bale seeing several new arrivals at the club.
Now David Kent from Mail Online suggests that Tottenham could also sign Danish starlet Christian Eriksen following being granted permission to talk with the Ajax midfielder as they prepare for life without the Welsh international.
Kent indicates that the 21-year-old midfielder could make the switch to White Hart Lane with only one year remaining on his contract with the Dutch side.
New director of football Franco Baldini and Spurs chairman Daniel Levy are currently deep in talks with Ajax director of football Marc Overmars after making an initial £8 million bid, with Overmars believed to be holding out for £12 million.
Overmars said: “Yes, Levy was here today to discuss the transfer. There is no agreement yet until it’s signed.
“Eriksen is going to talk with Tottenham now. Obviously, if it happens, we won’t be happy at all to lose Eriksen.”
After Chelsea and Jose Mourinho snatched their top target Willian away from them at the last minute, Spurs believe that Eriksen will be a suitable and cheaper alternative with a fee of around 10 million euros being enough to land the highly rated Danish international.
Eriksen has long been on the radars of large European clubs after he emerged onto the scene at the age of 18 and he impressed for his country during the 2010 World Cup.
The playmaker, who netted nine times in Eredivisie last term, could be part of trio who arrive at White Hart Lane with Roma forward Erik Lamela set to sign a contract today while Romanian defender Vlad Chiriches has also arrived in the UK ahead of a switch from Steaua Bucharest.
