It’s nearly closing time in the Football Transfer Tavern but as the bell chimes to signal last orders, a talkSPORT correspondent rushes into the bar exclaiming excitedly that Tottenham are ready to launch a shock bid for Dutch star Wesley Sneijder.
The Inter Milan midfielder is set to leave the San Siro after falling out with the club over a possible new contract and he not featured since September.
A number of European clubs are thought to keeping track of his situation but Tottenham’s hopes received a boost today after Carlo Ancelotti revealed that Paris Saint Germain are not interested in signing the 28-year-old.
Ancelotti said: “The only thing that we need to do is move on a few players who haven’t featured that much. We have a squad of 29 and the ideal is 25.”
The former Chelsea manager added: “Sneijder and De Rossi will not be coming. Paris Saint-Germain’s market strategy is very clear. The only new arrival will be Lucas.”
Sneijder’s current deal with the Serie A leaders runs until 2015 but he could be available at a cut-price fee of around £15 million given his contract impasse with the club.
