silvestri.jpgHere at the Football Transfer Tavern we are slightly shocked at the news emerging from talkSPORT that Tottenham Hotspur are interested in yet another goalkeeper – Chievo’s Marco Silvestri.

The club already have Hugo Lloris and also Brad Friedel and have only just seen Carlo Cudicini (permanent) and Heurelho Gomes (loan) leave the club yet another goalkeeper is apparently something they feel they need. Whilst some may call this slightly greedy, Andre Villas-Boas obviously feels it is necessary.

Back up keeper Brad Friedel may still be an able deputy but at 42-years-old is well in his twilight years and Spurs are mindful that he cannot go on forever with a backup plan needed. Whilst Lloris has firmly established himself as the club’s number one stopper, young Italian Silvestri has caught the eye of scouts and could well be subject to a bid soon.

The Italian stopper is 21 years of age and is currently on loan in Serie B for Padova in order to gain some vital first team experience. Already Silvestri has shown maturity and considerable talent and is firmly on the radar of the North London club who are said to be ready to hold talks with the player’s representative to sound out the possibility of a move to White Hart Lane.

Will Spurs pull off a swoop for the young Italian or have the journo’s pulled this one out of thin air? Rate this rumour below.
