Premier League sides Tottenham, Liverpool and Everton are all set to be left disappointed in the transfer market after reports emerged that Spartak Moscow are close to completing the deal for Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld.
The Russian side have submitted a £6 million offer to steal a march on the English clubs and the 24-year-old Belgian international has welcomed the interest explaining to De Telegraaf: “I now understand that they [Spartak] have made Ajax an offer for me.
“Only when the clubs are granted permission (to talk to me) will I think.
“I want to focus first on Belgium-France on Wednesday.”
He added: “I’ve always said that I will seriously look at each option.
“Those who know me, know that I will never choose just for the money but for the image and history of the team.”
The latest reports in the tavern suggest that his father who also acts as his agent is set to hold talks with the club on Wednesday after seeing a £6 million bid accepted by the Eredivisie champions.
It would now appear that the talented defender, who can play at centre back as well as full back, is heading to Russia rather than the Premier League. Liverpool, Tottenham and Everton have all been linked with his services this summer as he reaches the final year of his contract with the Amsterdam club.
He has already rejected one move to the Premier League after turning down Norwich City who saw a bid accepted by Ajax earlier this summer with the defender keen on a switch to a more prestigious club.
