Gary Hooper CelticThe future of Celtic striker Gary Hooper has been up for discussion lately in the Football Transfer Tavern, and Warren Haughton of talkSPORT expects it to be resolved shortly.

Tottenham have emerged as the late favourites to make the signing -  news that will come as a bitter blow to Norwich City who had made the striker their top target.

The 24-year-old is being chased by the Premier League pair after enjoying a fantastic season for Neil Lennon’s side in Scotland, with the highlight being his Champions League performances against the mighty Barcelona.

Celtic are desperate to hold on to their main man, especially considering they have the small matter of a Champions League knockout tie with Juventus coming up next month.

Tottenham are understood to have sent scouts to watch Hooper during Celtic’s 4-0 victory over Dundee United, and are set to step up their attempts to sign him.

Andre Villas-Boas is in the market for another striker, with Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor the only senior forwards on the clubs books, with the latter also currently away at the African Cup of Nations for Togo.

Norwich have already seen a £5 million plus player bid rejected by the Bhoys, who are holding out for a £7m fee.

Tottenham are understood to have begun talks of their own, and are thought to be the club in pole position to sign the former Scunthorpe United and Grays Athletic man.

Can Spurs finally wrap up the deal to sign Hooper before the window shuts? Rate this rumour below.

spurs can have hooper BUT only for a price of around £15m-the money epl clubs pay to belgian, french an portuguese clubs is far more than they try to pay for our players-the robbing must stop-if you want him spurs-pay the real fee and not some derisory offer-and thats what £5/£7m is

He’s performing in an inferior league mate. It’s not like he’s playing week in week out at the highest level, is it? 15 million? Get off the glue.

He would have more chance of playing in Europe if he signed for Inverness Calidonian Thistle than Spurs, LOL!!
We’ve got the Juve game coming up, that is of course after this seasons games (and great results) against HJK Helsinki, Helsingborg, Spartak Moskva, Benfica and Barca. Who was Spurs last ‘Big’ game against?? I suppose if any player has ambitions of banging about in mid table mediocrity whith absolutely no chance whatsoever of playing on the big stage, Spurs is the place to be!

spl = mickey mouse league, nobody takes it seriously, one championship quality team in celtic and the rest 3rd tier english league. one flukey result against barca and they think they’re the champions!! what have celtic done in the champions league before. put celtic in the epl and they’d struggle to get in top 8.

What have they done …Not a lot really..first British team to win European Cup it with an all SPL Scottish (Mickey Mouse team) that lived within 30 miles of Glasgow…As for flukey results actually had a 123 of them in Europe scoring 300 goals along the way beat Barcelona a couple of times and some others like Blackburn, Liverpool,Man Utd, Stuttgart, Benfica, Villareal. As recent as ten years ago in the Final of Uefa Cup
Even won a trophy at Wembley in 2009 against some poor opposition Barcelona, Al Ahly, and someone called Tottenham Hotspur 2-0

Strip out Man City & Man Utd and your EPL is crap. The Championship is more entertaining. The EPL is Sky’s lapdog without whom you’d be dead in the water. The Eredivisie , La Liga etc is infinitely superior – so up yourselves.

Sweeney are you having a laugh ? Spurs have finished in the top 5 for the last 4 seasons and been playing in Europe. So what are you on about ?

Bhoy67, The EPL is one of the best leagues in the world. That’s why a lot of the top young players come to the EPL. What about Chelsea (current Champs League holders), Arsenal, Spurs, are you saying they are all crap teams ? Even without the 2 Manchester clubs the EPL is still a million times better than the SPL. Celtic is your only decent club at best now Rangers have been demoted.

Hey , theren is no need for slating Spurs !! Norwich put in the !slap in ur face £5M!, And the writer put in the £7M ?, Admittedly Spurs will try and pay as low as possible , but thats business. If it was not for the stupidly rich clubs that pay £250,000 a week for a player just for their wages , let alone the £25-30+M for the club that sold him , THEN the price of players would at a much lower premium , and £5-7M would seem alot !! And the price should be the same around the world , but thats an ideal world , where a fan could walk to the stadium and get in on match day!! not gona happen is it …..

Strange the interest is based on his Champions League performances against Barcelona. He did not play at Celtic Park. Joebhoy totally agree, EPL clubs pay fortunes for players who turn out to be utter dross on the basis of promise. Hooper has proved he has it in the CL and he scores for fun, he can call himself a striker unlike those expensive clowns most EPL clubs have who score in 10 years what Hooper has in 2 or 3 years.

Yes he’s scoring in CL but they are basically cup finals every game as far as Celtic are concerned. Don’t get me wrong, you’ve done well, but be honest. Celtic are the best of a sh!te bunch of teams in Scotland. Hooper is performing well in a rubbish league. So what? I run rings around my 6 month old nephew. Hardly makes me good enough to play for spurs, or even Celtic. Hopefully Hooper will stay where he belongs. With Celtic. Inferior player, inferior team and an inferior league.
