Tottenham fans are looking up in some surprise here in the Football Transfer Tavern at the latest claim from Metro, who think the club saw a last gasp bid for Demba Ba fail.
We have already spent the morning talking about how Arsenal failed in their attempt to land the Chelsea forward and saw the Blues refuse to loan him out to them due to their reluctance to help out a rival.
Clearly the same sentiment applies to the white half of North London too, who as we all know saw Gareth Bale officially presented as a Real Madrid player earlier in the day yesterday, with Spurs not too shy in bringing in new players of their own this summer.
They have plenty of money left, yet it was a loan move that Andre Villas-Boas was lining up for Ba, eventually seeing it get rejected.
Given how much the Willian saga angered AVB and Spurs supporters, one of our punters quips that Chelsea could have given Ba to the Lilywhites for the season as a gesture of goodwill.
This however is football and nothing is done for free.
Chelsea are already struggling in the striking department and of course could not afford to see Ba leave in addition to Romelu Luakau – who joined Everton on loan – and were even looking to bring in a forward themselves as the transfer window drew to a close.
