The Daily Star reports that Tottenham’s signing of Roma attacker Erik Lamela will be announced within the next 24 hours with personal terms being finalised.
The 21-year-old is due to fly into England to complete talks between his agent Pablo Sebbag and former Roma and now Spurs director of football Franco Baldini.
There had been some doubts whether Spurs would match Roma’s £30 million asking price especially after a similar priced move for Willian was on the agenda.
However the Brazilian attacking midfielder decided to snub the Lilywhites despite undertaking a medical to instead sign for Chelsea.
This will see Lamela now complete a record breaking switch to White Hart Lane as Andre Villas-Boas continues to splash the cash in the transfer market as he looks to add attacking options before Gareth Bale completes his long awaited move to Real Madrid.
Lamela was not involved as Roma beat Livorno at the weekend, heightening speculation in the tavern that he will be departing for England imminently.
The latest deal will again break the club’s current record transfer fee which has already been smashed twice this summer, firstly with the £17 million arrival of Paulinho and then the £26 million forked out for Valencia striker Roberto Soldado.
Lamela netted 15 times in his 35 appearances for the Serie A club last season and he has emerged as one of finest attacking prospects in the European game.
Spurs have started the season with two victories following a stirring summer which saw Paulinho, Nacer Chadli, Roberto Soldado and Etienne Capoue arrive at White Hart Lane.
