Football Nasties – Michael Brown
YouTube does not do this player justice. If there was a prize for the dirtiest tackles (plural) then surely Michael Brown would be one of the favourites. Despite looking like a cuddly bear, Brown has earned himself a reputation as a modern day hard man in the English game.
Unfortunately for the player, it is more his robust and sometimes downright horrendous tackles that will be remembered rather than any footballing talent. Brown was a good player and, after a very impressive season at Sheffield United, was snapped up by Tottenham.
Since then he has had successful spells at Fulham and Wigan and is now currently part of the goings on at lowly Portsmouth.
Surprisingly Brown has received just 4 red cards in his career since 2001 but it seems to be more from luck that lack of trying although 265 fouls committed in his last 107 games would be a fairer assessment. He was famously sent off for a two footed lunge on former team-mate Sean Davis. Although Brown was playing for Fulham and Davis for Portsmouth, it later emerged that the two players had not been the best of friends whilst together at Spurs. Brown was again in the limelight after a stamp on Ashley Cole that went unpunished and followed it up with a head-butt on Liverpool’s Xabi Alonso which landed him with a 3 match ban.
Quite possibly one of the most feared/hated men in the Premier League.
