Villa & Everton To Commence Bidding War For Leeds Starlet?
Getting busy in The Transfer Tavern, when Neil Moxley at the Daily Mail tells us, that Leeds “star” Fabian Delph is the “top-target” for Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neill.
Moxley claiming, that 19-year-old Delph “has emerged” as the Premier League clubs “main” target and that the League One side have already turned down an “opening offer” for the midfielder.
The paper saying that a “bidding war” for the England Under-21 International is “imminent” after United received “two bids” for Delph, with the other being from Everton.
It said that Delph “fits” the profile of O’Neill buying “home-grown” talent and needs to bolster his midfield at Villa Park following the sale of Gareth Barry to Premiership rivals Manchester City for £12million.
Elland Road boss Simon Grayson confirming the top-flight interest in his midfield star.
“There have been lots of enquiries but we want to keep hold of Fabian. Then again, every player has a price. Manchester United got a good price for Cristiano Ronaldo,” Grayson is quoted as saying.
“No-one expected Fabian to leave six months ago, but in football that happens. He’s a talented player and you can’t get away from the fact there are going to be some Premier League clubs enquiring about him.
“But he’s under contract and any decision on players leaving the football club has to be the right decision for us and the player as well.”
It claimed that Grayson is not under any “pressure” to cash in on Delph and has been “assured” that is the case by Leeds chairman Ken Bates, who “turned down two approaches” in the winter window for the midfielder and that it “would take” more than £6million to make Bates consider any bid.
Neil Moxley concluding by saying, Delph “has been admired from afar” by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and that Leeds “hope” any other interested clubs “will now formalise their interest” now that they know Delph is wanted by Villa and the Toffees.
So what sort of beverage and just how many caused this one? Is Delph really set to become the prize in a bidding war between Everton and Villa? Should this rumour Fly or Die?
