Wenger refusing to rule out deadline day swoops for duo

wenger.jpgArsenal fans have been left frustrated inside the Football Transfer Tavern over the course of this transfer window, but John Cross at the Daily Mirror reckons there could still be some deadline day delight for the Gunners.

It is understood that Arsene Wenger is set to launch a bid for West Ham United’s Mohamed Diame over the weekend, despite publicly claiming he is not interested in the midfielder.

The Gunners are in the market for a midfield enforcer, and Diame fits the bill perfectly following his form for the Hammers this season and the added fact that he has a £3.5million buy-out-clause in his contract.

Wenger has reportedly held doubts about whether the Senegalese international is good enough defensively, but is willing to take a gamble at such a price.

And an even more exciting prospect for Arsenal fans are the rumours emerging that Wenger may be preparing a late bid for Barcelona’s unsettled striker David Villa.

Barcelona have said publicly they will not be looking to sell the 31-year-old, but Arsenal feel there is enough encouragement there from the player, who is desperate for regular first team football.

Both could be deals that go right to the wire on deadline day so, watch this space.

Are any of the pair destined for the Emirates on deadline day? Rate this rumour below.

I want to know why is wenger after forwards which we need defenders and a goal keeper because it is the defenders what are letting us down every time we are in front. so come on wenger and spend some money on our defence

I totally agree with kevin our defence is shambolic,we make school boy errors every game and it costs us points,if we dont sort defence out we are never gonna be at m.c or m.u,s level!
