Why Pay £70k or £80k pwk When Carl Jenkinson Is A Superior Option?

Bakary Sagna has become the latest Arsenal player to walk into a contract dispute with Arsene Wenger, as the 29-year-old demands the Gunners’ boss ups his £60,000-a-week deal.
However Arsenal may be better off to simply allow the Frenchman to leave the Emirates Stadium in January rather than enter a long period of contract negotiations. Inter Milan are said to be waiting in the wings to capture Sagna, should he not sign a new deal at the Emirates.
With the emergence of Carl Jenkinson as a potential successor at right back, Wenger has no pressure to keep the unhappy Frenchman at the Emirates for longer than is strictly necessary. Sagna has been a good servant for the Gunners, but with him approaching 30, and having a history of injuries, it would appear that January may be the last chance for Arsenal to cash in on their right back.
Additionally, with a ready made replacement in Jenkinson, Wenger could reinvest any transfer funds gained from letting Sagna leave into strengthening other areas of the squad.
Although with a backup right back in short supply, Wenger will need to spend some of the Sagna transfer money on a direct replacement, who will likely be required to act as an understudy to Jenkinson.
In giving Jenkinson the responsibility of being Arsenal’s first choice right back, Wenger places added pressure on the youngster that will hopefully bring him through as a real contender for a regular place in the England setup.
Whilst the 20-year-old, is probably England’s current fourth choice right back, behind Kyle Walker, Micah Richards and Glen Johnson, the constant first team exposure at the Emirates, with the shear amount of Champions League and Premier League football that comes with that, should propel Jenkinson alongside Walker as England’s top two right backs.

We have done this before with people such as Gilberto and Ashley Cole for example thinking we would be better off then finding out that the young pretender is a mickey mouse player.

“Wenger could reinvest any transfer funds gained”.
That’s a good one.

sanga is very over-rated. he might like running up the wings, but his crosses are usually sh**e. we had to wait till the 89 th minute for a decent cross from him today.
he is so predictable. sagna gets ball sagna plays ball back or in field. his marauding up the wing often leaves us exposed.i notice against schalke his positional sense is awful. he is clueless like his boss. get rid.
i know there wil be a lot of people saying i don’t know what i’m on ablout. but just look at our joke defending, our problems started when we lost gibbs and they’ve gotten worse since we lost jenks. FACT>

Body I totally agree with u ,sagna is over rated and I never expected wenger will play him as a starter since jenkinson was doing great, trust me I enjoyed every moment that this kid was playing such his movement ,his runs his crosses he can passes and dribble ,but sagna is wood leg ,I never seen him delivering any decent cross .I know what I’m talking about bcuz I’m a pro soccer player and I play defense .sagna is below than average trust me .we should cash him

Your comment is invalid because you used the word soccer.

Noone is a greater joker than Ramilson. A forever promising young player, and forever recover from injury, and forever lack of confident. Ramilson new role was to lose possession cheaply, and became invisible on both attack and defend

A JERKINSON CANNOT DO WHAT SAGNA HAS BEEN DOING

one sh9t or another? choice not simple but pointless… the real choice was made at summer 2011/summer 2012… farewell to stars… hello clowns!

Wenger wil reinvest what? How much has he reinvested so far? You stink wit that thought. Lets sell our best and experienced players to get below average ones. How many young defenders have grown up since we let go of the supposedly old one like cole (stil epl best 3), etc. Wenger must go soonest bcoz he can’t even won the fourth place trophy again. Shameless, non-tactical ass called coach. Let him sit down & watch man utd, chelsea, man city do it neatly. The truth is bitter but we must accept it now or die in shame. The worst team in London now is arsenal. Stop envying other teams.

Sagna is the best defender at the club by far, he just wants out, and he’s been wanting out for some time.
