West Ham poised to bring in another defender
West Ham United’s attempts to strengthen their defence have been well documented in the Football Transfer Tavern, and Pete O’Rourke of Sky Sports believes Sam Allardyce is close to bringing in another full back.
Razvan Rat from Shakhtar Donetsk is reportedly close to signing for the Hammers, with his club looking to recoup some sort of fee for the 31-year-old this month, as his contract is set to expire in the summer.
The Hammers have already been busy this week in the transfer market, bringing in former Middlesborough defender Emanuel Pogatetz in on loan from Wolfsburg.
The Austrian is capable of operating at full back himself, so a move for Rat could be viewed as something of a surprise for Hammers fans.
But it is understood that Sam Allardyce is keen to make the move for Rat, with a cut price deal being viewed as something of a bargain for the experienced full back.
With other Premier League clubs reportedly monitoring the situation, Allardyce is keen to get a deal wrapped up as soon as possible.
The Romanian international is vastly experienced, having won league titles in his homeland as well as with Shakhtar. He was also a member of their UEFA Cup winning team in 2009.
