Simon Jones from Mail Online caused pints to be dropped amongst West Ham United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern earlier with the shock news that impressive recruit Mohamed Diame could be subject to a move away from Upton Park
Jones made clear over a game of pool that the 25-year-old, who only signed for West Ham United in the summer, has a release clause of only £3.5 million and is unsurprisingly interesting both Newcastle United and Arsenal.
The defensive midfielder, who was born in France, yet represents Senegal, scored in the Irons 3-1 victory over the European Champions Chelsea last week and has been one of their best players since his move from Wigan Athletic in the summer.
Diame began his career with Lens in France, before transferring to CD Linares and then onto Rayo Vallenco in La Liga. He then moved to Wigan in 2009 where impressive performances saw him pursued by a number of Premier League clubs before making the switch to the Hammers.
It would therefore be very surprising if West Ham even considered doing business for a player they have had for such a small space of time, however his possible release clause will certainly open eyes across the Premier League.
