Will FSG Actually Back Brendan For Another £20M Player?

Another day, another mega bucks player linked with Liverpool. This time, Brendan Rodgers is apparently running the rule over Christian Eriksen of Ajax.

The Dane has been attracting admiring glances around Europe this season, and that has resulted in a pretty tidy £20m price sticker being slapped on his head which seems a little out of the Anfield club’s current price range.

Having said that, Rodgers could be looking to make FSG pay up after he missed out on a host of attacking talent in the summer due to the American company’s bean counters not stretching their budget.

On the other hand, Liverpool have been stung fairly often in recent years with big money buys (think Carroll, Adam, Henderson and Downing) that haven’t worked out, so maybe the money men have got the right idea.

Liverpool do need a creative, goal scoring midfielder quite desperately. Gerrard isn’t the box to box midfielder he once was and of the thirteen goals they’ve scored up until today, Luiz Suarez has got five of them.

Eriksen would be a perfect fit at Liverpool. Operating as the spearhead of the five man midfield that Rodgers seems to like, he can get into positions to profit from Suarez’s intelligent forward play and would enable Gerrard to sit in front of the defence and spray the ball around the pitch like a sprinkler.

Whether FSG are prepared to take another big money gamble remains to be seen however. Eriksen may not be terribly keen on joining a club with little or no chance of reaching the Champion’s League within the next few years, so could stick at Ajax or pop over to one of the Milans.

The point still stands though. If FSG are prepared to put a bid in at least, it will show that they are backing their, and don’t forget that Rodgers is their appointment, manager. If they don’t, it’s probably going to be a long hard season for Reds fans.
