Newcastle United always have a rather safe home kit with the classic plain black and white offering coming in various designs and the St. James' Park faithful can rely on designers keeping it simple with the home strip. However more concerning is how much free vein these modern forward thinking kit manufacturers are allowed with the away kit.

The Magpies have gone from flamboyant non-matching colours to gross monstrosities that should be red carded and sent for an early bath. The club were provided with kits by Adidas from 1993 which usually saw a decent selection of shirts although there were a few notable exceptions but after the introduction of Puma recently the club have experimented with some increasingly audacious designs.

With modern football seeing new kit after new kit introduced and even the added money-making third kit, it certainly gives more chance of a fashion faux-pas occurring as designers imaginations run wild and Newcastle supporters are unfortunate to have seen their stars don some seriously disgraceful kits in recent years.

Here are the ones that Magpies supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern believe should have been left on the drawing board.
